On the 16th September 2026 The Young Journalist Academy was invited to attend the prestigious ‘Breaking Ground’ event at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. This event was the launch of the regeneration project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and many community partners, to re-instate the much loved garden water feature: The Cascade.
This project has taken over 3 years to prepare for and we attended the event to see the lifting of the first stone.
Whilst we were there we got to talk with the key people who told us all about the restoration project and just how important The Cascade is to so many people – and the role it will play in the future! Sam from Derbyshire Mind spoke with us about the importance of green spaces and how it contributes to mindfulness and wellbeing – making Chatsworth a fantastic project partner for their work
We also grabbed time with Steve Brace of The Geographical Association who has been working with the teams at Chatsworth to explore the learning potential connected with Chatsworth, the gardens and the Cascade. He explained to us why it is such an important resource.
